2019 will be a special year for the Toestand International Project as it is celebrating its 5th anniversary already!
As always it is too early to tell you where we are heading at this point but it sure will be as crazy as always. When we will go we can’t say neither but definitely somewhere in the 3 first weeks of July 2019.
You could be part of it but it is important to realize the project is a 6 month process, in which your involvement is expected at every stage. Such as being present at preparatory meetings, help to organise fundraisers and to take part to the trainings and building moments. No worries, fun is guaranteed 🙂
Want to join? Send a motivation letter to firstname.lastname@example.org in which you tell us who you are, as well as why you would like to join the international project. However take in account that applying doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be selected.
The deadline for the application is November 15th. The selection will be communicated around mid-December.
Thanks for applying,
Best of luck,
TT International Crew.
HASHëT will do silkscreen so bring your t-shirts / pulls!
The film will be shown within the context of 'Festival du Coucou Puissant'. For the music lovers out there: there are some interesting concerts at Barlok afterwards!
Toestand: Temporary use & urban planning
Together with BRAL and Brussels Academy we’re organizing a series of visits/debates about temporary use as an answer to the urban needs of today and tomorrow. Every Friday we’re focusing on a different aspect of temporary use (housing, culture, economy…) while visiting a different location/project (123 Logements, Studio Citygate, La Serre… ). After five visits, we’re closing this series of visits at our own project ‘Allee du Kaai’, where Bie Vancraeynest (Toestand), Toha De Brandt (Bral), Frederik Serroen (Brussels Chief Architect) and Boris Feron (Cabinet minister Vervoort) will talk about their own experience with temporary use.
Allee du Kaai: Adios Zinzinos
Next month ‘La Zinzinerie’ goes down. We can’t let this happen without a crazy goodbye party, can we? On the program: raw blues, voodoo garage, punk, rock, soul, surf… A not to be missed night if you’re into alternative music! But there’s much more than just concerts. You can have your bags and sweaters screenprinted with original drawings by Hashët Collectif or even go home with a tattoo, inked at our temporary tattoo shop!

Toestand: Book Presentation of ‘Leegstond’ at STELPLAATS
Leuven Anarchistische Groep and STELPLAATS organize a debate about reactivation of abandoned buildings and temporary use of space. They’ve invited different speakers from different backgrounds for the debate, during which our manual ‘Leegstond’ will be presented. So if you missed our book launch… here’s a second chance to get in touch with our manual.
Marie Moskou: The best conditions/support for similar projects in public space? Let’s write a charter!
Working in public space isn’t always easy nor is the collaboration with administrators. With future projects in mind, we feel the necessity to look back and reflect on the administrative “support” we had with Marie Moskou. How can similar projects be optimally supported? We have our own modest experience but we like to add the experience of others. Active in public space? Come and reflect with us at 4/10 or 9/11. Subscribe by filling in this online document.
Allee du Kaai: Film – ‘Demande à Ton Dealer’
Every second Friday of the month we’re screening a film in cooperation with ‘Centre Vidéo de Bruxelles’. Every film will be followed by an open debate. The first film is “Demande à Ton Dealer”, a film about Jamal, a young man who tries to find work. When this doesn’t work out, Jamal starts dealing drugs to survive while dreaming of being a famous rapper. The film will be shown in its original language (French).

After a cinematic Friday, we continue the weekend with yet another screening at Allee du Kaai! On Saturday we’re showing a documentary about squatting in Barcelona. The film will be shown within the context of ‘Festival du Coucou Puissant‘. For the music lovers out there: there are some interesting concerts at Barlok afterwards.

Marie Moskou: Permanences ‘Key Elements’
Before the architectural plans for Carré Moscou become concrete, Marie Moskoushares its vision on the future of the square, bundled as ‘Key Elements’. Their intention? To involve the neighbors and give them the chance to exchange ideas so they can be taken in account by the municipality and the future architects. So instead of writing a message, pass by during the permanences to share your own opinion and to have a conversation about the future of Carré Moscou!

A brief flashback!
After a great opening party, our newest project BiestebroekBis has begun to roll! Follow their Facebook for weekly updates. Thank you to all the visitors and volunteers for the great start!
Another thank you!
Shout out to our partners, volunteers and visitors for the flea market at Allee Du Kaai, which was a success! We couldn’t have imagined it any better. (Special thanks to the sun for her presence)
Toestand International: Tetova, Macedonia 2018
On August 6th, we took off for Tetova with a group of about thirty Belgian volunteers. Our objective? To transform two abandoned spaces (indoor/outdoor) into a socio-cultural centre. In Tetova about ten Kosovar volunteers of Termokiss joined us, along with some friends from Switzerland and our local partner Democracy Lab. The result of one week of hard labour? A brand new space complete with a small library, a music room and a cosy skate park where you can also play chess and relax on the ‘hill to chill’. From the moment we left, locals started to add finishing touches while some youngsters were preparing graffiti drawings… It feels good to know that the socio-cultural space & skate park we created together are in good hands. Thanks to everyone involved for the hard work and the good energy!

Toestand: Get your own copy of Leegstond!
From now on, Leegstond is for sale in several bookshops. Among them is Passa Porta in Brussels, Copyright Bookshop in Ghent, De Groene Waterman in Antwerp and Amok in Aalst. Leegstond will also be available at the bar of Allee du Kaai, where you can have a drink, a great chat and, if you’re lucky, a signature by the author.
