‘Biestebroek coordinator’ and Toestand co-founder Niels Coppens had an artist residency in the city of Mönchengladbach between March and August 2016, where he occupied an abandoned hotel during 6 months. Lucas Destrijcker followed the project and wrote a booklet which is now available at Allee Du Kaai and Biestebroek or online.
ALLEE DU KAAI has been selected for the Visit.brussels Mixity Awards. These awards valorise the diversity in the city, by rewarding projects which include all layers and all cultures in Brussels. Allee du kaai was selected in the ‘best practice’ series. Help us win the public vote by voting for Toestand at the bottom of this page! And sharing is caring; the more you share this message, the bigger chance we have to win the money prize attached to the award. Thanks for spreading the love!
Offices looking for partners
Is your organisation in need of an office? Does your organisation have a socio-cultural approach? Don’t you mind sharing spaces with others? Biestebroek is looking for fixed partners to occupy the office area. Please email a short explanation of your organization to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The agenda is finished and now the ball will finally start rolling. Check the agenda of March and get involved!
We’ve got new pictures of the ‘Building Days’. The one we organised together with Solidarcité asbl. You’ll find some photos of the first open bar session. Please visit our Flickr page.
The 20th, 21th and 22th of March the Toestand team and partners will work together to change the face of Marie Moskou (the Carré de Moscou) in St. Gilles. Spring is coming and we are going to welcome it as loud as we can. Join the team and get in contact with email@example.com.
Share it with everyone: we recently installed a billboard at the square! Here, you can promote your activities and you’ll find information on the ongoing projects and calls for collaborations at the square. You’ll also find that Marie Moskou since recencly welcomes the market from the Parvis on a daily basis. This will certainly bring a new dynamic! We are looking forward to your proposals about how you see yourself and your activities combined with this new presence.
Journee Allee du kaai dag
On the 28th of January we will be having our next Journée Allee Du Kaai Dag. A day where the whole site of Allee du kaai gets activated. There will be animations for kids, activities for elder people and sports for teenagers! Come and enjoy Allee du kaai between 14pm and 22pm for concerts, animations, peoples kitchen, performances, and much more.
BRUZZ made a short video report on the construction of Biestebroek, the latest project of toestand. Make sure you check it out.
We also have a Flickr page with the pictures of our first ‘Journée Biestebroek dag’, which was a big succes.
Toestand is going to Granada! Since 2015, Toestand organises a project abroad every summer. This year, we’ll go to Distrito Norte in Granada, where we’ll organise together with Asociación Gitana Anaquerando a building week. We’ll transform an abandoned building of the municipality into a social center, serving as a node for the summer festival Abierto. If you’re interested to join for cooking, building, cleaning, organising, or other things, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with as subject ‘Toestand goes Granada’ and some info about yourself!
Last summer we did something similar: we went to Kosovo with people from Brussels and Switzerland. With locals, we transformed an abandoned concrete structure in the lively cultural centre Termokiss. LES MECS made this 7 minute report about it, which now comes with subtitles (EN/NL/FR)!

Toestand is taking part in the exhibition “Ensembles. Architectuur en ambacht” curated by VAI. The opening is scheduled for 29th of September. During that evening Toestand gave a talk at 8pm. The exhibition will happen at deSingel in Antwerp.
